Despite the possibility of high yields and excellent quality grains, water beans, or first harvest, are known to involve great management risks. This crop takes place during the rainy season in Brazil, between spring and summer, in ideal conditions for the proliferation of pests and diseases that affect crop productivity. And as the bean plant has a short cultivation cycle, the producer's attention to adequate soil and plant nutrition, as well as the health of the crop, must be redoubled.
According to the technical manager specialized in grains at Alltech Crop Science, agronomist Guilherme Bavia, the high temperature and excess humidity typical of this season can cause the abortion of flowers and pods and, mainly, the spread of diseases, such as blight. bacteria, anthracnose and root rot. “All of these agents significantly compromise crop performance and, in some cases, can cause total planting losses”, he warns.
To reduce the threats of water bean management, maximize the plants' resistance to adversities and stressful factors and promote a productive harvest, Bavia advises nutritional supplementation of the crop, using, mainly, compounds rich in amino acids and polysaccharides.
“The application of these elements, together with specific nutrients, will result in more resistant bean plants. Through biological and nutritional technologies, we increase plant protection, prevent infections and prevent the appearance of diseases”, says the agricultural engineer
In this sense, another tip from the expert is the need for constant applications so that the stimuli in the bean plant are reinforced. “Unlike animals, plants do not have an immune system. Therefore, it becomes necessary to reapplication the technology, so that the plants continue to be pre-conditioned and synthesize defense compounds”, he explains.
Thinking about the physiological performance of the crop, a good nutritional balance is also essential. According to Bavia, when there is a photosynthetic increase in the crop, that is, when, through nutrients and biological compounds, the beans enhance their photosynthesis rate, there is greater production of photoassimilates and grain filling and the crop, as a whole, produces more. “By following these steps and looking at the climate calendar, the producer reduces the threats of the period and can have great results with the first harvest.”
To contribute to physiological management strategies, Bavia's expert suggestion is the use of Agro-Mos, a solution rich in amino acids, polysaccharides and specific nutrients that help the plant express its maximum productive potential, helping to maintain nutritional balance, contributing to activating the natural resistance of plants and improving leaf health.
