Embrapa Soja, in partnership with the International Center for Agricultural Bioscience (CABI - Center for Agricultural Bioscience Internationall), will promote on September 23rd, at 14pm, a panel commemorating Bioprotection Day, whose objective is to debate different aspects of the biological control of pests and diseases and the use of bioinputs. The event will feature the participation of Guy de Capdeville, Director of Research, Development and Innovation at Embrapa and Daniel Elger, CEO CABI worldwide.
The event will be free and held via the CBSoja GoLive. CABI is an international, intergovernmental, non-profit organization that seeks to provide information and use scientific knowledge to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. “The joint holding of the event strengthens the partnership between CABI and Embrapa Soja and strengthens the internationalization actions of our activities and collaboration networks”, highlights researcher Adeney Bueno, international coordinator of Embrapa Soja.
Bueno explains that the use of biological control is a reality in national and global agriculture and is one of the fastest growing segments of the plant protection sector. However, research, development and correct use of biological control of pests and diseases are essential for the success of the technology, which is why it is important to hold events such as Protection Day. “In addition to being safe for the environment and essential for the sustainability of our agriculture, biological control of pests and diseases is also a great demand from the consumer market, which is increasingly looking for foods that have been produced with less use of synthetic pesticides”, added Bueno. .
The event program includes a lecture on the history of biological pest control in Brazil, to be given by professor José Roberto Postali Parra, ESALQ/USP. CABI Director Ulrich Kuhlmann will present the CABI Bioprotection Portal as an open access decision support tool. To address Embrapa Soja's experience in the biological control of pests and diseases, the event will feature Embrapa Soia researcher Claudine Dinali Santos Seixas. Also part of the program is the director of the Innovation Support Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Sibelle Silva, addressing the National Bioinput Program in Brazil. Furthermore, the president of IOBC/NTRS Germán Vargas will give a lecture on biological control and the importance of technology transfer for its adoption.
Another topic to be highlighted is the role of the biological control industry in Brazil, with the director of biological products at CropLife Brasil, Amália Cristina Piazentim Borsari. The event will also highlight experiential testimonials from biocontrol companies, a theme that will be led by Carlos Muñoz Alarcón, from Bio Insumos Nativa and Gustavo Ranzani Herrmann, from Koppert.
