Lack of Chinese purchases in the United States puts pressure on prices
Bioenergia Brasil, the National Union of Fuel and Lubricant Distribution Companies (Sindicom), and the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Unica) released a joint statement on Thursday (28) to clarify doubts about the continuity of RenovaBio, following repercussions surrounding a court decision by the Regional Federal Court of the 3rd Region (TRF3). The injunction, published on the 21st, determines that the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) refrain from applying penalties provided for in the program.
The decision provisionally suspends sanctions related to non-compliance with decarbonization targets, such as fines, operational restrictions, inclusion of distributors on default lists, and even the prohibition of fuel supply.
According to the entities, the decision was issued in a specific case involving only one fuel distributor and the ANP. Therefore, its effects are limited to the parties involved and do not automatically impact other distributors or agents in the fuel chain.
The institutions reinforced that RenovaBio remains in full force and effect, with valid oversight and target compliance rules, and that the interpretation that the penalties provided for by the program have been generally suspended is not valid.
Created in 2020, RenovaBio has already contributed to the reduction of more than 185 million tons of CO₂ in Brazil, combining progressive decarbonization targets, technical certification, and incentives for environmental performance. For industry representatives, compliance with these obligations is essential to maintain the integrity of the system, recognize certified producers, and preserve Brazil's credibility as a global benchmark in sustainability.
The signatory entities also reaffirmed their support for the Federal Government and the ANP to ensure the application of current regulations, guaranteeing regulatory predictability and equality in the biofuels market.
