The investment of €60 million announced by Bayer in expanding Monsanto's seed structure in Ukraine began to bear fruit today, according to Vitaly Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr regional military administration.
“Today, together with the director of Monsanto Seeds LLC Volodymyr Onyschenko, we placed a symbolic 'time capsule' at the construction site of this project's new facilities," he wrote on Telegram, according to the news agency.
The information comes from the Ukrainian news agency Interfax. Bayer had announced the investment in April this year. The German company qualifies the issue not as an investment, but as part of its "major commitment" in Ukraine.
Monsanto's structure is already one of the largest in Eastern Europe in corn seed production. According to the information distributed, the expansion will create jobs and increase tax revenue. The project includes a new seed dryer, storage facilities and two bomb shelters.
The factory currently employs around 100 full-time employees. In addition, it hires between 250 and 300 seasonal workers.
