Already used to protect 60 different crops, the insecticide Sivanto Prime has had its leaflet extended to citrus farming. The solution is also effective for controlling the psyllid, vector of greening, a disease that affected around a quarter of orange trees in Brazil's citrus belt in 2022, according to an annual survey by the Citrus Defense Fund (Fundecitrus).

Fabio Maia, Bayer's marketing manager for Fruits and Vegetables, says that the leaflet extension reinforces the company's strategy of seeking technologies that help producers make more intelligent and efficient decisions, especially in citrus farming, where there are few solutions. and few modes of action for management.

“Specifically for greening, a disease caused by the psyllid pest (diaphorina citri), insect vector of bacteria Candidatus Liberibacter spp., there is no other product on the market with this technology. It is a molecule that is the result of almost 15 years of research”, says Fábio.

Sivanto Prime is a systemic insecticide that has the active ingredient flupyradifurone, part of the butenolide chemical group, which acts within the insect's nervous system. “The solution helps the producer by providing application flexibility in citrus pest control, which can be both aerial and foliar”, concludes the executive.

Maia also highlights that Sivanto Prime has a new chemical group, essential for the rotation of assets, which controls all phases of the psyllid, especially the nymphs, promoting the rapid paralysis of the pest. Furthermore, the solution has a favorable profile and is selective for the majority of beneficial insects and pollinators, contributing to integrated pest management (IPM).

The official launch of Sivanto Prime for citrus took place last Wednesday (19), at the Royal Palm Plaza, in Campinas (SP) and was attended by customers, consultants and commercial partners. At the event, lectures related to the sustainability of citrus farming were given, such as: overview of greening and management strategy; disease transmission characteristics; digital transformation in citrus farming and cultural challenges in the coming years involving Bayer's 3 strategic pillars, namely innovation, sustainability and digital tools.
