Since 2002, the Brazilian Agribusiness Congress (CBA) has brought together the sector's main leaders and experts to talk about the challenges and perspectives of the Brazilian market. Committed to the sector, Bayer, a multinational agricultural input company, is present as the master sponsor of the event, which takes place on August 7th, at the Sheraton São Paulo WTC Hotel, in São Paulo.

With the theme “Brazil Agro: Innovation and Governance”, the CBA proposes a broad debate on the importance of integration between public and private initiatives in favor of the development of more sustainable practices, solid policies and innovative processes for the entire segment. The first panel of the congress, “Production chains and Innovation”, at 9:50 am, mediated by Silvia Massruhá, president of Embrapa, features among the debaters, Malu Nachreiner, CEO of the Bayer Brasil Group and leader of the company's agricultural division.

Throughout the conversation, participants must show how the agricultural industry has invested in basic innovation, in the adoption of digital agriculture and in the commitment that the private sector, including Bayer, has made to enable sustainability projects in Brazil, in addition to operations financing and support for rural producers. For the Bayer leader, dialogue on innovation and governance in the public and private spheres is essential to boost the competitiveness and protagonism of Brazilian agriculture on the international stage.

“As members of a sector that is now one of the main economic pillars of the country, we understand our responsibility to provide innovative products and solutions that positively impact producers and the environment. Regenerative agriculture is at the heart of what we will deliver in the future and in the programs we are developing with partners and producers, such as Pro Carbono, for example. We also have the role of supporting the evolution of the sector in relation to regulatory and ESG issues”, says Malu.

Agricultural Biotechnology in Brazil

During the Congress, Bayer will hold, at its stand, from 12pm, an autograph session to promote the launch of the book “Agricultural Biotechnology in Brazil: opportunities and challenges of innovation in the next ten years” written by Anderson Galvão, CEO of Céleres Consultoria, and Ivan Wedekin, former secretary of Agricultural Policy, agronomist and consultant. The work, now available on the website of publisher Martins Fontes, compiles research data and surveys of the economic, agronomic and environmental benefits of the use of agricultural biotechnology in Brazil over the last twenty years, in addition to bringing together perspectives for the future.

According to Geraldo Berger, director of Regulatory Affairs at Bayer for Latin America, the authors were able to demonstrate how to maintain innovation processes in favorable conditions to boost productivity and efficiency in the agricultural sector. “Companies have already realized that joining forces and bringing together different representatives that make up the sector is a quick way to innovate. But it is important to point out that any investment in innovation depends on the importance of maintaining a safe environment to guarantee the right to patents in the country, allowing the continuity of the evolution created”, concludes Berger.
