Basf presented this Wednesday (20/10) results of its new bionematicide and root growth inducer Votivo Prime. The product, based on Bacillus firums, is now available in Brazil in branded seeds treated industrially for commercialization.

Indicated for controlling nematodes in soybean, cotton, corn, rice, wheat, sorghum and peanut crops, the new biological solution also stands out for its growth-promoting effect on the shoot and root.

Bacillus firums forms a film around the young roots, interrupting the communication of the nematodes, which become disoriented. It also releases enzymes that make the pest eggs unviable. “The product confuses the nematode's communication with the root and leads to death from starvation”, explains Embrapa's Technology Transfer Supervisor, Sergio Abud.

Another important feature of Bacillus firums consists of the production of phytohormones that induce plant rooting. In this way, the product favors the initial development of the root system, helps vigor, contributes to tolerance to abiotic stresses, in addition to reducing the entry point of diseases into the roots with a consequent improvement in productivity rates.

Basf's senior manager of Seed Treatment, Luis Henrique Feijó, highlighted the compatibility and synergy of Votivo Prime with other chemical and biological products. He also presented data on increased productivity with the application of Bacillus firums, even in areas without the presence of nematodes.

In 413 soybean areas compared to the field, in the 2020/21 harvest, Basf measured an increase of 3,8 bags/hectare with the addition of Bacillus firums. The measured productivity of 77,8 bags per hectare reached 81,6 bags per hectare in management using the product.

With regard to nematode management, Feijó also highlighted the importance of adopting other integrated measures, such as prevention, use of resistant varieties, crop rotation and cover crops.

Seeds treated with Votivo Prime will also be available under the brands Credenz and Soytech in soybeans, Lidero in rice and FiberMax in cotton crops.
