BASF presents innovations at the 33rd Brazilian Congress of Weed Science

Between the 12th and 15th of August, BASF will present a series of solutions aimed at controlling weeds at the XXXIII edition of the Brazilian Congress of Weed Science (CBCPD). The event, held at Expo Dom Pedro, in Campinas (SP), is promoted by the Brazilian Society of Weed Science (SBCPD), and brings together researchers, teachers, students, businesspeople, agronomists and rural producers to debate management strategies. 

For Sérgio Zambon, senior manager of Technical Product Development for Agricultural Solutions at BASF, the Congress is a valuable opportunity for technical-scientific exchange. “We understand the complexity of this management, which is essential for the success of crops and the legacy of agriculture. The farmer must look for solutions that are not exposed to weed resistance and rotate active ingredients, as well as use alternative methods to have more effective control,” he says.

One of the company's highlights for the event is the Seletio System, a recently launched solution focused on managing weeds in cotton crops. The innovation combines SeletioTM TwinLink Plus biotechnology, Fibermax genetics and Durance herbicide, which promise greater efficiency and control of crow's foot grass. 

Another new feature is the Provisia System, a technology aimed at Lidero rice seeds. The Provisia 50 EC herbicide promotes, post-emergence of the crop, the chemical control of red rice and barnyard grass, the main weeds in the crop that are already resistant to most agricultural pesticides.

For soybean crops, BASF presents the Heat solution, which includes the active ingredient Saflufenacil, registered with the global brand Kixor. The molecule was specially developed to contain weeds such as horseweed and other broad-leaved weeds. 

Experts discuss spot spraying and pre-emergence weed management

In addition to presenting innovations for the control of weeds that represent major challenges for farmers, BASF will promote two lectures on August 15th: one with Xarvio Digital Farming Solutions Weed Scientist, Guilherme Faganella, who will talk about localized spraying from 13:30 pm on the “Herbicide application technology” panel; and another with BASF's Technical Product Development Specialist, Marcelo Katakura, who will discuss the use of pre-emergent in weed management in “Perspectives on new herbicides and mechanisms of action”, starting at 15:30 pm.
