PR Harvest 2025/26: Barley production expected to be a record.

The Conjunctural Bulletin from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab), released this Thursday (June 11), highlights that barley planting has already reached 44% of the estimated area. This result is due to favorable weather and ideal soil moisture.

The progress consolidates the projection of a record area of ​​126 hectares for 2026, an area 21% larger than the 104 hectares harvested in 2025. With this, the production estimate remains above 550 tons, according to data from May. However, there is still a challenge for the coming months due to the El Niño phenomenon. The risk of high rainfall in the spring could affect the quality of the grains at harvest.

Paraná is the country's main producer. Rio Grande do Sul is the second main producer, but with around 100,4 tons. Brazil is expected to produce 678,7 tons, according to IBGE estimates, an increase of 7,2% compared to the volume produced in 2025.

"Barley planting progressed well this week because we had drier weather, unlike May when we had a lot of rain. The positive side is that the May rains were also important for planting, as they provided soil moisture so that the work could proceed fully," says Carlos Hugo Godinho, agronomist and analyst at Deral.

Second corn crop progresses

For grain crops, the second corn crop of 2025/26 is progressing and strengthening expectations of a good production. According to the latest survey by Deral, the estimate for the crop is 17,5 million tons. The harvest is still occurring in an isolated and sporadic manner, having recently begun in the western region, the state's main producer in terms of volume. To date, approximately 14 hectares have been harvested, representing less than 1% of the total cultivated area.

"Of the 2,9 million hectares planted, 24% are already in the final stage of development and present virtually no risk of frost, while the remaining 76% still require attention to temperature variations," explains Deral analyst Edmar Gervasio.

Broccoli prices fall

Broccoli reaffirms its sensitivity to weather and market conditions. The production hub in the Curitiba region, which accounts for 75,6% of Paraná's harvests, recorded a seasonal increase in supply, leading to a significant drop in wholesale prices at the beginning of June. Data from the bulletin shows that, in the second week of the month, the most common price practiced at the Curitiba wholesale market was R$ 8,33/kg, a value 28,6% lower than that recorded in the same period of the previous month.
