Emater-RS indicates significant losses in soybean crops in Rio Grande do Sul
Increasing losses arise from natural threshing, sprouted and damaged grains, and trail failures, all exacerbated by excess moisture; corn harvest advanced
Bahia Farm Show 2024 will begin the official lecture program next Tuesday (11), at 16pm, with its traditional Opening Forum. In this edition, the central theme will be the “Use and Monitoring of the Urucuia Aquifer for better water management”. The fair takes place from June 11th to 15th, at the Bahia Farm Show Complex, in Luís Eduardo Magalhães, Bahia (BA).
The theme will focus on the Study of Water Potential that has been developed by rural producers, through the Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia (Aiba), in partnership with the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro ( UFRJ), to understand the dynamics of the Urucuia Aquifer, through real-time measurements and monitoring, and which in the future will allow greater security for irrigated agriculture and multiple uses.
The event, which will be televised and broadcast on the Bahia Farm Show's social networks, will bring to the debate names linked to the topic, such as researcher Dr. Everardo Mantovani, from UFV; the researcher and manager of Hydrology and Territorial Management at the Geological Survey of Brazil, Amilton Cardoso; and rural producer Júlio Busato. The mediation and presentation will be by agricultural journalists, Giovani Ferreira and Carla Letícia. For the president of Aiba and Bahia Farm, Odacil Ranzi, who will also be part of the debate panel, the choice of the topic demonstrates the dedication and appreciation that rural producers in Bahia have for environmental issues.
“This is an unprecedented initiative throughout Brazil, and we are very proud to share the progress of this study within Bahia Farm. The water monitoring system will be a fundamental tool for better managing the region’s water resources and optimizing the use of water in food production,” he says.
The opening forum of the Bahia Farm Show will update the progress of the project, which is currently in its third stage, and includes the Surface and Underground Water Sources Monitoring Program, through a system to monitor the behavior of bodies in real time water resources in the western region of Bahia.
The Urucuia Aquifer comprises an underground water source located mostly in western Bahia, but also covers the states of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Tocantins, Maranhão and Piauí. The aquifer is a significant source of fresh water, responsible for the perennial formation of the Grande and Corrente rivers and their tributaries, which are quite influential in the region's hydrographic basins, contributing to the flow of the São Francisco River.
In this edition, the official opening ceremony, with authorities representing the agricultural sector, will be held on Monday (10), one day before the start of the fair, which will be open for visitors between the 11th and 15th of June. The program also includes the launch of the ABC + Bahia Plan (2020 – 2030), lectures on sustainable agriculture, research, energy transition and governance.
In addition to the exhibition of agricultural machinery and implements, the agricultural fair will also feature activities such as beef and dairy cattle auctions, product and research demonstrations, training and workshops in the agricultural sector, demonstration of technologies for efficiency in irrigation and space intended for the commercialization of family farming products. The complete program can be seen on the event's official website (bahiafarmshow.com.br).
