According to the Edenred Repom Freight Index (IFR), the average freight price per kilometer traveled closed the month of July at R$6,33, an increase of 0,31% compared to June. The variation, although moderate, is a reflection of the update in the values of the minimum freight rates for road freight transport, carried out by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) in mid-July. “The adjustment in the table did not greatly affect the freight price in the busy month of July, but it should influence August prices more significantly”, highlights Vinicios Fernandes, Director of Edenred Repom.

Even without adjustment, in July, the average price of a liter of diesel increased in the country, according to data from the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL). Regular diesel was found at R$6,04 and the S-10 type at R$6,17, both with an increase of 0,33% compared to the first fortnight of the same month. Fuel accounts for around 40% of the freight cost

According to the July 2024 report from the economic committee of the Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry (CBIC) and the National Industrial Learning Service (Senai), the construction market is heated, which increases the demand for transport in the segment to the flow of raw materials. Furthermore, the cost of construction has remained at a high level since January 2020 until June this year, showing an increase above the country's official inflation.

“In addition to the adjustment in the table, the increase in the price of diesel and the increases in construction costs maintain the upward trend in freight prices, which has been recorded since May this year and could continue in the coming months”, concludes Fernandes.

The IFR is an index of the average freight price and its composition, based on the 8 million annual freight and toll voucher transactions managed by Edenred Repom. Edenred Repom, a brand from Edenred Brasil's Mobility business line, has specialized in the management and payment of expenses for the road freight transport market for 30 years, a leader in the freight payment and toll voucher segment with 8 million annual transactions and more than 1 million truck drivers served throughout Brazil.
