At the opening of the rice harvest, technical panels are highlighted

Enhancing the use of areas to work in agriculture as a production system will be one of the themes

Intensification is the keyword that permeates the debates in technical panels scheduled for the 33rd Official Opening of the Rice and Grains Harvest in Lowlands. One of them will deal with productive intensification in lowlands and the other will focus on strategies for intensifying full-cycle livestock farming in ILP systems. The Terras Baixas Station of Embrapa Clima Temperado, in Capão do Leão (RS), will host the event for the fifth consecutive year, between the 14th and 16th of February.

With the theme “The farming of tomorrow”, as it will be, the professor at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM) Enio Marchesan, will give a panel focused on the importance of crop rotation, the intensification of cultivation in lowland environments and the evolution of isolated crops of rice, soybeans, corn and other species. When commenting on what is expected from this new crop and what it could be, Marchesan promises to address the potential use of areas to work in agriculture as a production system.

“We will also address how to do it, the challenges associated with this new way of managing sustainable or more sustainable, or increasingly sustainable, these areas, trying to look at the system in an integrated way”, he states.

The professor also anticipated that a suggestion for a project will be presented for the Southern Half of the state so that producers have access to new technologies to include crop rotation in their lowland areas as a way of minimizing risks and increasing income.

Marchesan's panel opens the round on Productive intensification in lowlands, which will feature the words of Paulo Régis Ferreira da Silva, technical consultant at the Instituto Rio-grandense do Arroz (Irga) and who will talk about corn in lowlands. The panel, which starts at 15:40 pm on February 15th, will be mediated by the director of Federarroz André Matos.

On Thursday, February 16th, the panel Strategies for intensifying full-cycle livestock farming in ILP systems, will be moderated by Embrapa Clima Temperado researcher, Jorge Schafhauser Jr. The debate, which starts at 9:30 am, will feature the veterinarian specialist in nutrition and animal feed, Paulo Fernando Ferreira and the researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural Technology of Argentina (Inta), Juan Sebastian Vittone.

According to Ferreira, the importance of crop-livestock integration in the production of quality meat in pastoral models, with greater sustainability, through the use of pastures, preserved forage, summer and winter grains and cereals and industry and food by-products.

“According to the ever-increasing requirements, due to genetic advancement, it is very important to integrate diversified agricultural models and modern livestock farming, enabling greater use and recycling of nutrients and thus having more productive agriculture and increasingly rational livestock farming. pastoral”, concludes the panelist.

The Official Opening of the Rice and Grains Harvest in Lowlands will have as its central theme "Rice farmers as multi-harvest producers”. The event will feature more than 130 exhibitors, 34 of which in the technological showcases, in addition to the presence of more than 30 caravans of producers. The program will also include other panels that will address topics related to the market, management, technologies and crop rotation, and the holding of the Rice Sector Chamber meeting.
