At Tecnoshow 2025, Bayer has been highlighting its products for corn crops. One of the growing concerns among producers is bipolaris spot, a disease caused by the fungus Bipolaris maydis (Click here to learn more). It has spread throughout Brazil and has a particular impact on the second crop. Losses resulting from it can exceed 70% of production.

“To minimize the damage caused by bipolaris spot in corn, it is necessary to know its characteristics. Farmers can select hybrids with good genetic tolerance, carry out early monitoring, crop rotation and apply fungicides to manage the disease,” explains Luiz Márcio Bernardes, regional leader of Bayer’s corn business unit.

Another threat to crops, the corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis, click here to learn more), a sucking insect with high potential for damage, can compromise up to 100% of the plantation, according to Embrapa.

Insect management requires the integration of methods that include: varietal (resistant hybrids), cultural (crop rotation, destruction of tiguera corn and planting at the right time), biological (natural enemies, egg parasitoids) and chemical.
