The Association of Soy and Corn Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosoja-MT) reports that the corn harvest is expected to have a loss of approximately 4 million tons, which will mean an irreversible loss for producers. The prolonged drought has already affected more than 10% of production across the state.

According to a report from the Aprosoja-MT technical team, this year's harvest will be approximately 36 million tons of corn, which is below the expected volume due to a lower volume of rain. Some crops go up to 50 days without significant rain or with a volume below 10 millimeters (mm).

“Rural producers are the biggest losers with these numbers, because every harvest forecast affects the market, the cost of production and contractual issues. We cannot predict climate issues, which is why the harvest is only confirmed after harvesting work”, says Fernando Cadore, president of the entity.

The data released by Aprosoja-MT were collected through a questionnaire with associated producers across the state and which have already confirmed irreversible losses mainly in the west and south regions.

“Our work in the field covered hundreds of associated producers who guided our questionnaire, confirming the negative estimates for this harvest due to the drought”, concludes Cadore.
