Aproclima assists in consolidating production data in MT

Data began to be used as an official source in Imea reports

Database of the Aproclima Program, created by the Association of Soy and Corn Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosoja), began to be used as an official source in reports by the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea). In the latest estimate released, Imea updates expectations for the soybean and corn harvest in Mato Grosso with assessments of the rainfall history of the Program's meteorological stations.

According to the May report, Imea also used the Aproclima database to consolidate soybean productivity for the 2019/20 harvest, mainly on the radiation and precipitation that occurred in each region during the soybean and corn production cycle. “Taking into account that the State has little meteorological information with history and quality, the Aproclima data comes to fill an existing gap in the area and assist in consolidating production data for Mato Grosso”, says an excerpt from the report.

According to Imea Superintendent, Daniel Latorraca, Aproclima is one of the most innovative programs the Institute has ever worked on. “This project involves all distribution, collection of climate information, temperature, precipitation, analysis and other developments. Now in phase three we will move on to the issue of pests, of issuing alerts for risks. We use these forecasts a lot to validate our productivity data. It is a partnership that has generated good results, especially for the producer, since the climate is one of the factors that most impact productivity”, highlighted Latorraca.

The report also provides rainfall forecasts for 7, 15 and 30 days in the main producing cities in all regions of the State. The productivity of the 19/20 soybean harvest was consolidated in the latest release from Imea, which indicated the largest harvest in history, with an average of 59,16 sc/ha in the State. “The justifications for this increase in relation to last year (5,56%) are based on the good lighting conditions that occurred in this cycle, combined with constant rain in practically all regions”, points out the estimate

And regarding corn, the months of March and April were important for defining the productivity of the second harvest and the analysis of the accumulated rainfall during this period indicated volumes below expectations. “To give you an idea, in the West and South Regions the differences in precipitation were 54,05% and 66,81% in the last 60 days”, says an excerpt from the report.

Aproclima

An unprecedented initiative in the country capable of promoting risk management in crops, the Aproclima project brings a monthly climate monitoring report that helps producers in decision-making. The Program has 33 Climate Stations strategically installed on rural properties in the four corners of the State. Producers who joined the initiative are able, through Internet access, to monitor weather variations on their property and climate forecasts, such as producer Emerson Zancanaro, who highlights the importance of the project.

“It is one of Aprosoja’s main tools that provides very good assistance to members and other producers. It is extremely important, as it provides accurate data on the climate that helps the producer know the right time for planting and harvesting”, he pointed out.

According to the president of Aprosoja, Antonio Galvan, the purpose is to provide more guarantees about the climate situation for decision-making. “The program brings much greater security to the producer, especially in relation to rain, as it is based on meteorology generated by these climate stations implemented where there is better air current, so the producer knows the right time to plant or not”, he highlighted.

Under the responsibility of Aprosoja's Agricultural Defense Management, the initiative is in partnership with the “Luiz de Queiroz” Higher School of Agriculture (ESALQ) and the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea). The Aproclima Program was officially launched in September 2019 during an event at the Aprosoja headquarters, which featured a lecture by Luiz Carlos Molion, PhD in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin (USA).
