The ANP published consolidated information on the evolution of the Brazilian oil, natural gas and biofuels sector in Brazil in 2020. Tables, tables, graphs, cartograms and texts can be consulted on the page Statistical Yearbook 2021 — Portuguese (Brazil) (www.gov.br)

In 2020, national oil production grew 5,7% and reached 2,9 million barrels/day. The increase was led by the supply of pre-salt oil, which reached an average of 2 million barrels per day in the year, around 69,4% of the country's production. In the same sense, natural gas production increased by 4,3%, the 11th consecutive year of increase, and reached 128 million cubic meters per day (m3/day). In the pre-salt, natural gas production also continues to increase its share of the national total and corresponded to 65,7% in 2020.

In 2020, the ANP held the public session of the 2nd Cycle of the Permanent Offer, which raised R$56,7 million in signature bonuses and generated a forecast of R$160 million in minimum exploratory investments.

In the year, the volume of obligations under the clause in concession, sharing and onerous assignment contracts relating to investments in research, development and innovation (RD&I) was R$1,1 billion. The amount generated from government participation reached R$46,7 billion in 2020, a drop of 7,3% compared to the previous year.

Due to the increase in domestic production, in 2020, oil exports reached the highest value in the historical series, 1,4 million barrels per day, an annual increase of 16,9%. Oil imports, which totaled 135 thousand barrels per day, fell 28,9%.

In the supply sector, national production of derivatives grew 3,4% in 2020, reaching 2 million barrels/day, around 77,2% of installed refining capacity. Sales of derivatives by distributors recorded a drop of 4,3%, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Regarding biofuels, biodiesel production was 9% higher than the previous year, mainly due to the increase in the mixture content in diesel oil (from 11% to 12%). Ethanol production was 7,1% lower than the previous year, reaching 32,8 billion liters. Hydrous ethanol sales fell 14,6% in 2020, due to the pandemic.

The data published today is divided into five sections: National Oil and Natural Gas Industry; Commercialization; Biofuels; Block Bidding; and ANP Resolutions. The international data will be released on July 30th.
