To promote an exchange of ideas on the future of protein security, with a focus on maximizing the efficiency of productive resources in a sustainable way, the United Nations (UN) held a pre-Summit. The virtual event, which took place between July 26th and 28th, 2021, was attended by Alltech.

The objective was to consolidate the work of the Summit on Food Systems in creating a shared vision, in addition to establishing agendas and a commitment to actions. On the occasion, the Director of Alltech's ruminant research group, Dr. Vaughn Holder, was the presenter of the debate with the theme: “Efficiency in the use of global resources for the production of proteins in food systems”.

During the event, the expert defended the importance of finding answers to this great challenge. “We have one planet and we need to figure out how to distribute food safely, ensuring food security,” he highlighted.

Professor of sustainable meat production at Harper Adams University, Dr. Jude Capper was also among the guests. “We need to think about how to act locally. There is not just one solution, production systems are different, as are management practices. Furthermore, we need to know livestock in depth and understand that it gives us more than just food”, he stated.

Along with her, the director of sustainability at Elanco Animal Health, Dr. Sara Place, the associate professor of animal nutrition at Texas A&M University, Dr. Tryon Wickersham and the blogger for Beef magazine, Amanda Radke, participated in the debate.
