Albaugh announced the launch of its Afiado insecticide (acetamiprid + bifenthrin) to control soybean bugs. The new product's central characteristics are high shock power and long residual power, "in addition to not unbalancing populations of dust mites and other natural enemies of bedbugs", according to a company statement.

The product acts through contact, ingestion and tarsal contact (walking over the plant after spraying). As part of the insecticide launch actions, Albaugh released results of studies involving the small green stink bug (Piezodorus guildini) and the brown stink bug (euchistus heros). “In the case of the green stink bug, the Albaugh treatment provided control efficacy of 70% to 87,5%, compared to a maximum of 85% of the standard treatment”, stated in the material sent to the press. “In relation to the brown stink bug, the management program with Afiado controlled 68% to 80% of the population, compared to 75% of the standard”, the note continues.

Learn more about acetamiprid and bifenthrin

Acetamiprid (acetamiprid, CAS 135410-20-7, Irac 4A) is a first generation neonicotinoid. It reacts in the body like nicotine, a natural insecticide. Acetamipride is a nicotinic agonist that reacts with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nACh-R). These receptors are located on the postsynaptic dendrites of all neurons in the brain, spinal cord, ganglia, and muscle junctions. Activation of nACh-R receptors causes hyperactivity and muscle spasms and, eventually, death.

Bifenthrin (bifenthrin, CAS 82657-04-3, Irac 3A) is an insecticide from the pyrethroid family, artificial versions of pyrethrins (contained in chrysanthemum flowers). It was first registered for use by the United States Environmental Protection Agency in 1985. Bifenthrin is neurotoxic and targets voltage-gated sodium channels in neurons. Acts by ingestion or contact.
