Producer from Paraná assumes interim presidency of Aprosoja Brasil
José Eduardo Sismeiro will replace the then president of the entity, Antonio Galvan, until October this year
Agtech Sima - Agricultural Monitoring System announces that in April it reached a total of five million hectares monitored in Latin America, through active users of its application, a 25% jump compared to last year, when there were four million. Of this total, 50% of the surface corresponds to Argentina, where it is the leader in the segment, 30% comes from Brazil, while the other 20% is distributed in other countries such as Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico.
“It is important to highlight that these five million hectares correspond to contracted and active areas within the platform, that is, they are real farms and plots in which Sima technology is used daily in data collection and analysis”, highlights Rafael Malacco, manager of market development.
According to them, these results actually place agtech in a leading position at LATAM level. “Few companies achieve this volume of work if we consider these areas as sources of frequent information and revenue generation, not just with remote sensing or free licenses without constant use”, he reinforced.
Sima is a startup that has its origins in Argentina, there the company has already digitalized around 10% of the entire area dedicated to agriculture in the country. It is worth highlighting that agtech has conquered, on average, 500 thousand new hectares per year and that , although the monitored extension has grown uniformly in the different countries where it operates, expansion in Brazil has had a greater contribution to these numbers in recent years.
Last year alone, Sima doubled the number of customers and revenue, hoping to maintain this rate for the current year. Today there are around 400 served. Looking ahead to 2023, the company's objective is to quadruple its business volume compared to 2022. “In the same vein, we intend to exceed 2.000 customers in the next three years”, points out Malacco.
To achieve this objective, agtech defined new steps in its roadmap: iOS development, new features, new cultures with their respective limits and adversities. Furthermore, the office will add other verticals to its structure: insurtech and sustainability. “We will also grow in workforce, increasing our structures and hiring 20% more employees by the end of 2022”, endorses the manager.
Sima also moved from a core business of data collection to analyzing big data, with a lot of added value for the exploration of this information. In this sense, it has become a company that is already a fundamental input not only in data collection, but also (and above all) in crop management.
Since arriving on the Brazilian market at the beginning of 2020, the company has expressed its concern about standing out in a market that has broad competition and diverse (including free) technology offers. In this sense, Sima chose to offer solutions focused not only on data collection, but rather on the intelligence that could be generated with correct analysis. “With this, we attracted the attention of large companies and multinationals both in the industry and in the input distribution network and cooperatives”, says the executive.
As in any market, the international expansion process goes through a crucial stage, which is the validation of the company's business model in the new territory, and this occurs through the volume of customers, projects, feedback and finally the renewal of the first contracts . “We already have 90% of our customers in Brazil using the platform for more than a year with renewed contracts. Another important fact is that, even before renewal, some of them already increase, after the first months of use, the volume of hectares or contracted users”, says Malacco. Data that shows that agtech is on the right path, and that it still has a lot to produce.
“We understand that this is just the beginning, agriculture in Brazil is challenging and always demands a lot of evolution so that we can continue offering innovative, applicable solutions that truly offer direct benefits to our customers and partners”, concludes the manager.
