December 2023 was marked by episodes of rain and impacts on agribusiness
The rains that occurred in the states of Pará, Mato Grosso, Piauí and Rio Grande do Sul stand out; rainfall accumulated exceeded the historical average
The Goiás Agricultural Defense Agency (Agrodefesa), an agency of the Government of Goiás, warns rural producers to pay attention to the deadlines for actions, linked to important agricultural and livestock chains, which end this January. The calendar for the month of January includes attention to soybean sowing, crop registration and registration of commercial poultry establishments.
“Agrodefesa has an important role with rural producers in maintaining active surveillance over crops and livestock, in order to prevent the introduction and spread of pests and diseases. To this end, it constantly updates and publishes action calendars focused on monitoring production in Goiás”, explains the director of Agricultural Defense, Augusto Amaral Rocha. “In the month of December, for example, we had many actions with deadlines focused on the cattle herd, but now this January it is the turn of commercial poultry establishments and soybean producers to pay attention to the actions that the Agency requires of them”, he adds.
Augusto also explains that this monitoring helps the Government of Goiás to provide an effective response, in the event of the identification of any potential risk to Goiás' crops and herds. “It is important that producers keep their documentation and registrations updated with Agrodefesa, as this is essential for the agricultural defense of the entire State. In the event of a disease or pest being identified, with the updated mapping, the Agency can act effectively, minimizing possible impacts on the different production chains”, he adds.

January 12: Deadline for soybean sowing
The Government of Goiás, through Agrodefesa, managed to extend the deadline for soybean sowing in the state from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). As a result, planting, which would end on January 2, 2024, will continue until January 12. The request was forwarded by the Agency at the request of the production sector, through the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Goiás (Faeg), motivated by the strong influence of the El Niño climate phenomenon, which caused irregular rainfall and high temperatures in the second half of 2023. The extension should help producers who are directly affected by the lack of rain this year, especially in the north of the state.
January 27,: Deadline for registering soybean crops with Agrodefesa
After extending soybean sowing in the state until January 12, the deadline for registering the crop was also changed. Now, producers in Goiás can register with the Goiás Agricultural Defense System (Sidago) until January 27th, through the website https://sidago.agrodefesa.go.gov.br. The declaration is mandatory and must always be made within 15 days after the end of the sowing calendar. This record contains information on the planted area, the type of cultivar used, the planting date and harvest forecast.
The CNPJ from which the seed was purchased is also requested, or whether the seed was produced by the producer himself, as well as information about whether the crop is irrigated or not. The information is important for health work in the field, such as combating pests such as Asian rust.
