The 2023 edition of the Agro Show, designed and organized by Coopernorte, in Paragominas (PA) ends tomorrow, at noon. But it can already be said that it was a great success. Started last Wednesday (24/5), the event brought together an exhibition of agricultural technologies and technical lectures aimed at rural producers.
The exhibitors totaled almost 100 companies, ranging from large producers of pesticides, seeds and agricultural machinery to service providers, such as consultancies, companies dedicated to environmental issues and specific spraying.
In the lecture section, several renowned names in Brazilian agribusiness transmitted knowledge to rural producers. Among them, Marcos Jank explained the global trends in the renewable energy market in agriculture; Eder Moreira, from Bayer, spoke about fungicide management in soybeans; and Ronaldo Trecenti taught how crop rotation and cover crops affect the productivity of soybeans and corn. Embrapa was represented by Lucieta Martorano, Edilson Carvalho, Maria da Conceição, Ronaldo Pereira and Emerson Barghi.
Another highlight was the lawyer Mariely Biff addressing issues of family succession, rural business management and governance. She explained that only 5 to 7% of family businesses reach the third generation. Largely due to lack of preparation for the succession process. He pointed out several differences in perception and beliefs between generations. And he spoke about some of the different topics involved.
One of the points raised by Mariely was the need to create protocols to facilitate the management of rural companies. It is a means of ensuring harmony through rules. For example: what each family member behaves like in the company, how much each person will receive, working hours, vacations... And the ever-present need for separation between family and business relationships. There are two worlds. They must be understood that way.
In terms of succession, the lawyer teaches that there are no ready-made formulas. Each case must be analyzed based on the reality of the family, the business and the future expectations of those involved.
Coopernorte, Cooperativa Agroindustrial Paragominense, started with 33 members in 2011. But the idea was to have only 20, says the cooperative's CEO, Bazilio Wesz Carloto. An agronomist graduated from UFSM, he left Rio Grande do Sul attracted by the potential of Pará. Needing to organize his clients in the region, he had tried to set up a cooperative before. However, the large number of interested people made the process difficult. Hence the option for a small group. "At the meeting, the imagined 20 became more than 30 because some friends and neighbors of those interested were brought", he explains.
After 12 years, Coopernorte has grown. It currently has 96 members and revenues of around R$1,2 billion. This means an increase of 80,7% compared to the previous year. And a positive result 252% higher than the leftovers from 2021. At the end of the 2022 fiscal year, R$19 million was shared among the cooperative members.
The cooperative has members in 11 cities: Abel Figueiredo, Açailândia, Buriticupu, Dom Eliseu, Goianésia, Ipixuna do Pará, Itinga do Maranhão, Paragominas, Rondon do Pará, Thailand and Ulianópolis.
This year, after an investment of R$80 million, Coopernorte's first agroindustry comes into operation. And the cooperative's three units must move six million bags of grain, a volume more than 15% higher than the previous year.
