Sweetness, lots of flavor, crunchy pulp and an intense red color. These are the main points that can be highlighted by those who consume Watermelon Arriba, a variety that makes up the seed portfolio of the Topseed Premium line, from Agristar do Brasil.

One of the great attractions of the fruit is the absence of seeds, which further highlights its taste on the palate. “Arriba entered the market and acceptance by producers and consumers was fantastic. Customers who purchased the variety have already indicated that they want to purchase again, aiming for the good deals made”, points out the Technical Sales Representative of Topseed Premium in Rio Grande do Sul, Márcio Mota.

In addition to having many characteristics that attract the consumer's attention, Arriba has advantages for those who grow it. “In farming, rural producers need security and trust when choosing seeds for their plantation and, thus, guaranteeing quality products that are accepted by the market, in addition to a positive return for the business. And this can all be achieved with the Topseed Premium variety, which meets all these requirements”, says Mota.

According to the Representative, among the advantages of the material for those who cultivate the variety are the ability to be transported over long distances, high plant health, resistance to diseases, good protection and high utilization of the fruits.

“In the field, Arriba has good productivity, firmness and can be transported long distances without crushing. It is also very tolerant to drought and few fruits are burned by the sun. Even small watermelons, weighing less than 7 kg, are used, giving the variety a high fruit utilization, without the need for discards”, reinforces Mota.

Results on the field

Fernando Silva, Technical Sales Assistant at Topseed Premium, reinforces the advantage that producers have when planting Arriba watermelon. “This product easily meets the demands of producers who intend to enter the value-added watermelon market.”

Producer José de Alencar Krause de Pinho, from the city of Pedro Osório (RS), considers Arriba healthier than traditional watermelons. “I found the variety to be more resistant. As it has a thicker, more lush leaf, watermelon is difficult to deliver. Good leaf area also helps protect fruit from sunburn.”

Another producer of the variety is Alexandre Bertacco, from Arroio dos Ratos (RS). In his statement, he said he was surprised by the results of the planting on his farm. "I was surprised by the Arriba watermelon. I planted the variety for the first time and was very satisfied. There were three thousand plants and so far I have harvested 60 tons. The material proved to be quite productive. Next year, I intend to increase the area of cultivation on my property".

The average fruit weight of the Arriba watermelon varies between 10 and 12 kg. It has an oval shape and very firm pulp, which provides excellent post-harvest performance.

“Arriba is elevated to another level in terms of watermelon in Brazil. This is because, for the end consumer, the fruit is tasty, has great sweetness, a good texture to eat, does not crumble in the mouth, does not spoil easily and has no seeds, another positive point when eating, especially for children” , concludes Mota.
