Brazil exports 39,6 million bags in the 2021/22 harvest and obtains record revenue of US$8,1 billion
The result represents a 13,3% drop in volume, but a 38,7% increase in value compared to the 2020/21 cycle
With an increase in the price index by 28,5% compared to the same month of the previous year, Brazilian exports from the agricultural sector reached the record value of the series in June 2022: US$ 15,71 billion (+31,2%). There was also a 2,1% expansion in shipped volume.
Imports of agribusiness products were US$1,53 billion (+19,8%), with an increase of 17,9% in average prices and 1,6% in quantum imported.
The highlights of June/2022 were record exports from the complex of soybeans, meat (chicken and beef) and coffee.
The soybean complex, the main exporting sector of Brazilian agribusiness, reached record records of US$8,06 billion in foreign sales for the months of June (+31,9%), even with a drop in imported volume (-2,3%), due to the performance of soybeans in grain.
China, a traditional importer of Brazilian oilseeds, acquired 64,5% of the exported quantity in June, 6,49 million tons (-8,2%). Exports of soybean meal, the complex's second main product, were US$1,20 billion in June (+63,8%). For the first time in the historical series, product exports in June exceeded US$ 1 billion. The coffee sector exported US$788,74 million in June 2022 (+73,6%). Foreign sales of green coffee were US$721,50 million, a record value for the months of June and which meant an expansion of 76,7% compared to the US$408,32 million exported in June 2021. Exports of soluble coffee recorded US$57,2 million in the aforementioned month (+46,1%).
The main markets to which Brazil exported green coffee were: the European Union (US$376,68 million; +82,5%) and the United States (US$168,69 million; +171,9%). The record export value of green coffee was due to the 70,3% increase in the average export price.
Foreign sales of meat, the second most important sector in exports, were US$2,35 billion in June 2022 (+32,0%). This is the highest monthly value in the entire historical series starting in January 1997. The value was obtained mainly due to the increase in the average export prices of the sector's products (+25,8%), although with a smaller increase of quantity exported (+4,9%).
The main meat exported is beef, which registered US$1,14 billion in foreign sales (+36,9%), a record value for the months of June, with an increase of 6,6% in volumes and 28,4% in average prices. The main import market is China, which acquired 65,9% of the value exported by Brazil in June, which meant US$752,99 million (+70,7%).
Chicken meat exports also reached a record in the historical series in June 2022, surpassing the US$900 million mark to reach US$932,12 million (+46,7%).
In the first half of 2022, Brazilian agribusiness exports totaled US$79,32 billion (+29,4%), a record value for the period. The expansion occurred due to the rise in prices (+27,7%), while the quantum exports rose less (+1,3%). Agribusiness represented 48,3% of total Brazilian exports in the first six months of 2022.
Agribusiness imports reached US$8,14 billion in the semester (+8,5%), fully influenced by the variation in average prices (+17,7%), as the volume index fell: -7,8%. This value does not include imported inputs for agricultural production.
