Agricultural storage capacity reaches 177,7 million tons

The storage capacity of agricultural products in Brazil reached 177,7 million tons in the second half of 2019. This is what the Stock Survey, released this Tuesday (9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), shows. The study collects information on the volume and geographic distribution of stocks of storable basic agricultural products.

The increase in capacity was 1,3% compared to the previous semester. The products stored totaled 26,5 million tons, 2,3 million tons more than there were on December 31, 2018. The largest volume stored is corn, with 11,9 million tons, followed by soybeans (5,5 .4,1 million), wheat (1,7 million), rice (1,0 million) and coffee (XNUMX million).

Together, these products represent 91,6% of the total stock monitored by IBGE in the survey. The remaining 8,4% are cotton, black beans, colored beans and other grains and seeds. Corn stocks grew 6,8% and soybean stocks increased 0,7%, compared to the second half of 2018. Rice stocks (-21,2%) and coffee stocks (-19%) fell. ) and wheat (-2,2%).

Silos

The country's main type of storage is silos, which increased by 2,2% compared to the first half of 2019. They represent 48,7% of total capacity, reaching 86,6 million tons. In second place come bulk and bulk warehouses, which maintained a total capacity of 66,7 million tons, responsible for 37,5% of national storage.

Conventional, structural and inflatable warehouses represent 13,8% of the country's storage capacity, with a total of 24,5 million tons of agricultural products, an increase of 1,7% compared to the first half of 2019.

According to IBGE, there was a 0,5% drop in the number of active establishments, which totaled 7.940 in the second half of 2019. Only the North Region showed an increase in the period, of 0,9%. The Northeast (-1,9%), Southeast (-1,8%) and South (-0,2%) regions fell. In the Midwest, the number of establishments with stock remained stable.

The state of Mato Grosso continues to have the largest storage capacity in the country, with a total of 44,5 million tons - 58,0% of this capacity in bulk warehouses and 33,8% in silos. Next come Paraná, with 32,3 million tons of capacity, and Rio Grande do Sul, with 32,2 million. In both states, the use of silos predominates.
