In 2019, the work of agricultural attachés had a favorable performance in the negotiations of international trade agreements, in overcoming technical, sanitary and phytosanitary barriers to trade and in the promotion of Brazilian agriculture in official missions. “These professionals have direct dialogue with local authorities in each country, aiming to reduce obstacles to agricultural trade”, observes Andressa Beig, general coordinator of Agricultural Attaché Management.
Among the highlights of the attachés' performance in their positions in 2019 are the negotiation of the commercial part of the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, the overcoming of technical, sanitary and phytosanitary barriers to trade, with the opening of the market for exports of various Brazilian products such as meat, dairy products, rice and melon and the promotion of Brazilian agribusiness in official missions and international fairs.
The balance was carried out by the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture.
At the end of 2019 more attachés were appointed to fill vacancies both in new positions and in replacement of attachés at the end of their term. These are the posts of FAO (Rome), United Kingdom (London), Lima (Peru), Singapore, China (2nd wave), Russia, USA, Japan and European Union (2nd wave).
Thus, the Ministry of Agriculture ended 2019 with a structure of 22 posts and 24 agricultural attachés. “This represents a considerable expansion of agricultural representation in Brazilian embassies abroad and a clear evolution of negotiations in the interest of Brazilian agribusiness”, highlights Andressa.
