The IBGE released this Thursday (30) the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) results for the first quarter of the year, showing a negative rate of 0,2% in relation to the previous quarter. Agriculture had a rate of -0,5%, Industry, -0,7%, and services, 0,2%.

In current values, GDP in the first quarter totaled R$1,714 trillion, Agriculture, R$90,234 billion, Industry, R$296 billion, and Services, R$996 trillion. The sectoral participation shows Agriculture with 1,074%, Industry, 5,3% and Services, 17,3%.

The accumulated rate in the last four quarters in relation to the four immediately previous quarters, records GDP growth of 0,9%, for Agriculture, 1,1%, Industry, 0,0%, and Services 1,2%.

In three of the four quarters of 2018, Agriculture had negative growth rates. As the rates are comparative, this is also due to the exceptional results of 2017, analyzes José Garcia Gasques, general coordinator of Economic Studies at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

With the exception of the last quarter, which had some growth, Agriculture has been accumulating quarters with reduced growth since 2018, noted the coordinator.

The positive highlights this year have been the behavior of agribusiness exports, the good performance of the corn harvest and livestock. Negative contributions include the 10,6% reduction in Rice production, (-4,4%) in Soy production and (-2,9)% in Tobacco production.
