According to a new report from RaboResearch, entitled "Adapting to Produce: The Resilience of Agriculture in the Face of Climate Change," the last ten years are among the ten hottest ever recorded. The study, prepared by experts Andy Duff, Guilherme Morya, Bruno Fonseca, and Camila Bonilla-Cedrez, analyzes how agribusiness has been adapting to the effects of climate change and what paths still need to be taken to ensure the sustainability of agricultural production.

According to Rabobank, the impacts of global warming have become increasingly evident in Brazilian agriculture, with the occurrence of extreme weather events—such as prolonged droughts, heat waves, and intense rainfall—that directly affect the productivity and predictability of harvests. This new reality demands adaptation and resilience strategies from the rural sector capable of ensuring the continuity of production in an increasingly unstable environment.

The study analyzes ongoing initiatives and technologies under development aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change on the country's main crops, especially corn, coffee, and sugarcane. Among the highlighted measures are advances in plant breeding, the adoption of more efficient irrigation systems, and soil management practices that promote water and nutrient retention.

Experts emphasize that the continuity of innovation depends on a robust research and development ecosystem that unites efforts from the public and private sectors. Institutions of scientific excellence, according to the report, play an essential role in ensuring that Brazilian agribusiness continues to evolve and remains competitive in an increasingly challenging global landscape.

Another key point of the study is the relationship between the preservation of native vegetation and precipitation patterns on a regional scale. Forest maintenance and restoration are considered fundamental to mitigating the effects of climate change, as they influence the local water and climate balance. Rabobank emphasizes the importance of coordinated action between producers and local governments, both to preserve areas of native vegetation and to recover regions where degradation has already compromised rainfall patterns.

The report concludes that the future of Brazilian agribusiness depends on the sector's ability to adapt and the strengthening of partnerships between producers, research institutions, and public policy makers.
