The Brazilian Tobacco Growers Association (Afubra) aims, in its statutes, to encourage diversification and ensure the safety of its members and the Mutualist System. At the end of the 1950s, he created the Agricultural Development Department which, from 1994 onwards, became Agro-Comercial Afubra Ltda, as one of its objectives is still to encourage new production chains. “Afubra always seeks to plan actions and activities that bring benefits to its members; that offer safe paths for the diversification of rural properties”, emphasizes Benício Albano Werner, president of Afubra.

Agro-Comercial Afubra Ltda., with the sale of quality agricultural inputs for various crops and its team that provides technical assistance in the field, also seeks to offer paths for the diversification of rural properties. To achieve this, it takes another step with the construction of a grain receiving unit. Observing the behavior of agribusiness in Brazil, experiencing its best moment, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, faced by the whole world. The grain market, in recent years, has been breaking production and export records. According to a forecast from the National Supply Company (Conab), grain production is estimated at 268,7 million tons, exceeding the last harvest by around 11 million tons. Corn, for example, is expected to be harvested at 105,2 million tons (an increase of 2,6% over the previous harvest). In the soybean market, the production estimate is even more optimistic, reaching an increase of 7,1% compared to the last harvest. The expectation is that, this harvest, cereal planting will occupy around 66,8 million hectares. These numbers show the importance of diversification in property, whether for personal consumption or to add income.

“The expansion of the grain market shows that they are a good alternative for diversifying rural properties, regardless of whether they are small or large in area. Therefore, Afubra opens another branch of activity, bringing benefits, both to the entity and to its associates and customers”, explains Romeu Schneider, CEO of Agro-Comercial Afubra Ltda.

The work on the grain unit is being carried out by the company Kepler Weber, hired because it had the best proposal, on the agricultural property attached to the Expoagro Afubra Park, located in the municipality of Rio Pardo/RS. The unit intends to serve associates and customers in the regions of Matriz (Santa Cruz do Sul) and the branches of Venâncio Aires, Candelária and Cachoeira do Sul. With the completion of the Project, the expansion of the activity to branches is being studied.
