With the rainy season intensifying in Tocantins, rural producers are starting to plant pastures, however, it is essential to be careful when purchasing grass seeds. The Agricultural Defense Agency (Adapec) warns of the importance of purchasing seeds with legal origin and that are registered in the National Seed and Seedling Registry (Renasem).
The technical responsible for the Adapec State Seeds and Seedlings Program, Luís Henrique Michelin, clarifies that illegal seeds can spread pests in crops, causing economic losses and losses to the phytosanitary heritage of Tocantins. “When the rural producer is going to purchase a certain species of seeds, he must observe the origin of this material, always requiring the invoice for that product and the Term of Conformity, which states the origin, batch, validity, among other important information”, he explains. Luis Henrique.
Adapec is the body responsible for the State's phytosanitary defense, helping rural producers to acquire seeds and seedlings that have quality, viability and genetic purity. To this end, it maintains an exclusive program to monitor the transit and trade of these products.
In case of doubts about how to identify irregular seeds or complaints regarding the sale of these products without provenance, the Agency has the Defense Hotline on 0800 063 11 22, where calls can be made anonymously from Monday to Friday between 8am and 14pm.
