Adapec extends soybean planting in the Tropical Plains until June 5th

In response to requests from the Association of Rural Producers of Southwest Tocantins (Aproest) and the Rio Formoso Irrigation District (DIRF), the Agricultural Defense Agency (Adapec) extended the deadline for planting soybeans in the Tropical Plains to five days. . Rural producers alleged difficulties with drainage caused by rain in May in the regions of Formoso do Araguaia and Lagoa da Confusao. The deadline for harvesting, which is September 25th, and for registration until May 31st, remain unchanged.

The oilseed planting window began on April 20th and would end on May 31st, in the region that comprises the municipalities of Lagoa da Confusao, Cristalândia, Pium, Formoso do Araguaia, Guaraí, Dueré and Santa Rita. This exceptionality is permitted when production is intended for seeds and/or research.

The president of Adapec, Paulo Lima, said that the producers demonstrated the need to extend it for a few more days and that after careful evaluation it was authorized. “We monitor this region 100% to prevent and control Asian rust and monitor the entire process from sowing to harvest to guarantee the phytosanitary heritage of Tocantins, always reviewing, adapting and updating procedures”, he assesses.

The technical responsible for the State Program for the Control of Asian Soybean Rust in Tocantins, Cleovan Barbosa, explains that in the Tropical Plains the cultivation of soybeans is only permitted upon advance registration with the Agency, work plan, term of commitment from the technical responsible and sketch of crops. “We also highlight the importance of soybean farmers paying attention to the phytosanitary standards set out in legislation, the rules that guide the planting window and the application of fungicides, among others.

It is worth remembering that this year, Normative Instruction (IN) nº 05/2021, opened the possibility for soybean producers to save seeds for their own use in the tropical plains, as authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA).
