Sharp growth in popcorn production is highlighted in Paraná
Estimates point to a Gross Production Value of R$3,5 million

Popcorn production in Paraná had a positive result in 2022, with an estimated 868,1 tons in an area of 279 hectares, according to technicians from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral).
Developed in 97 municipalities, production was significant in the municipality of Araucária, in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, with the delivery of 130 tons, or 15% of state production. In second place is Mandaguari, in the North region, with 48 tons, followed by Capanema, in the Southwest, with 38 tons.
The Gross Production Value (VBP) of popcorn is estimated at R$3,5 million. A stark contrast to common corn, which had 16,2 million tons produced in 2022, reaching a VBP of almost R$13 billion.
Drop in corn and soybean prices
Estimates indicate that there was a drop in the prices presented for soybeans and corn in 2023. In the case of soybeans, prices are close to R$124,00 per 60-kilo bag, which represents a drop of 28% compared to the end of July 2022. For corn, the drop is 40%, today standing at around R$46,00 per bag.
Variation in the price of wheat and beans
Among the items that saw a price drop in June is French bread. A Deral survey showed that in Paraná the average reduction was 3,4% compared to May, reflecting the 4,9% drop observed in the value of special flour, wholesale.
For colored beans, the biggest price reduction, which had started in April, was observed last week, reaching 20%. On average, producers in Paraná received R$183,00 for a 60-kilo bag. Black beans did not show much variation and the price was R$ 220,00 per bag.
