With the aim of uniting the wheat flour production chain to offer quality products to the population, the Brazilian Wheat Industry Association - Abitrigo updated the Farmer's Guide, a publication that is in its second edition and which provides guidance on the use of agrochemical substances in wheat cultivation.

The update includes information on the active ingredients authorized for use on wheat, the concept of risk analysis, general monitoring guidelines carried out by the National Health Surveillance System (SNVS) and the laboratories that carry out pesticide residue analysis on wheat in Brazil and in Argentina.

“We are attentive to movements regarding the use of agricultural pesticides in wheat cultivation and we continue with the mission of supporting and supporting farmers, mills and the industry as a whole”, explains the Executive President of Abitrigo Rubens Barbosa.

The updated booklet brings a new table of active ingredients authorized for use in wheat, with their MRL and the phase of the crop in which they should be applied. “Data like this is dynamic and may undergo changes, such as the exclusion of some permitted pesticides or the inclusion of others that were not previously on the list”, according to Denise Resende, Technical Supervisor of the Farmer's Handbook.

Rubens Barbosa also reinforces the issue of analyzing pesticides in wheat or wheat flour, which was also highlighted in the publication. “There was a desire from Abitrigo to support the mills with information about monitoring and authorized laboratories to carry out this type of analysis”.

The expectation with the update of the Farmer's Handbook is to unite the production chain in favor of flour quality. “We expect the farmer to only use pesticides permitted for wheat cultivation in sufficient quantities to comply with legislation and not exceed the permitted MRL. This way, Brazilian mills will be less susceptible to Health Surveillance monitoring actions and, above all, the entire wheat flour production chain will be united to offer quality products that do not pose a risk to the health of the population”, concludes Barbosa.
