The Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), through its Innovation Committee, launched today (28/4), at Agrishow, the third edition of the Position Paper: Vision of Innovation and Competitiveness in Agribusiness, which outlines a general overview of the sector on the subject, identifying opportunities, challenges and future perspectives for innovation and competitiveness in Brazilian agriculture.
Prepared based on research with representatives from the entire production chain, the document expands the debate on the correlation between innovation and food security and sustainability, their positive impacts on socioeconomic development and the implementation of new technologies for the use of inputs, greater efficiency in soil management and water use and increased biodiversity, which contribute to the mitigation of climate change and the creation of more resilient systems.
Abag's position paper also highlights the importance of overcoming international challenges – unilateral regulations, lack of dialogue, access to technology and competitiveness – and sectoral challenges, including infrastructure, climate change and regulations and public policies, to guarantee the future of Brazilian agriculture.
The document also addresses issues related to organizational nature, people and the environment, and analyzes factors for greater integration in global value chains, the relevance of work focused on the international promotion of Brazilian agribusiness and the implementation of effective policies to stimulate innovation.
Regarding trends, the research pointed out the main technologies for the coming years and their impacts on the sector. In Technologies 4.0, emphasis was placed on Artificial Intelligence (80,5%), autonomous equipment (66,2%), management applications and software (58,4%) and blockchain (32,5%). Precision agriculture and regenerative agriculture technologies were also mentioned.
“The third edition of our position paper showed that agriculture has enormous growth potential, even in the face of numerous challenges. And innovation will be essential to maintain this competitiveness, contributing to an even more sustainable production of food, fibers and renewable energy. Furthermore, ABAG, supported by its Innovation Committee, will play a fundamental role in promoting these initiatives, working to disseminate knowledge, build cooperation networks, defend and represent before governments and international entities and encourage partnerships to drive innovation,” highlights Giuliano Alves (pictured), Sustainability and Projects Manager at ABAG.
