The Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) and the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR) will hold the 4th Workshop “Agricultural Sector in Water Management” on June 16th. The initiative aims to celebrate National Irrigated Agriculture Day (15) and discuss nature-based solutions and efficient water management as strategies to strengthen food security and the resilience of Brazilian agriculture in the face of climate change.
In this context, sustainable irrigation is consolidating itself as an essential instrument to guarantee productivity, production stability, and the rational use of water resources. The debate will take place at the CNA headquarters in Brasília, and registration can be done through the organization's website (https://cnabrasil.org.br/eventos/4-workshop-setor-agropecuario-na-gestao-de-agua).
With the theme "Extreme Events and Nature-Based Solutions," the event will bring together the public and private sectors to discuss topics such as cooperation for irrigation development, legislation, climate scenarios, irrigation as an environmental, climatic, and economic solution, irrigation atlases, and the revitalization of river basins.
Currently, Brazil has 8,2 million hectares of irrigated land and an estimated expansion potential of approximately 250 hectares per year until 2040.
According to the CNA (National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock), for Brazil to sustainably achieve this potential, technical and institutional alignment is necessary among the main actors in water management in agriculture, positioning irrigation as a pillar of food security and climate adaptation, through the integration of nature-based solutions into the Brazilian productive reality, focusing on the sustainable advancement of irrigated agriculture in the country.
