Bayer and the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag) announce the opening of registrations and nominations for the 8th edition of the Women in Agriculture Award, an initiative that celebrates female leadership in agribusiness, recognizing rural producers and scientific researchers whose work promotes sustainability, governance and impacts promoted in society. Registrations for the “Rural Producer” category will be open from April 15 to July 31, 2025 and from April 15 to June 1, 2025 for nominations in the “Science and Research” category, through the official website (www.premiomulheresdoagro.com.br/).

“The Award reaffirms Bayer’s commitment to recognizing and giving visibility to women’s leadership in agribusiness. Each year, we see significant engagement from interested parties, reflecting the transformative impact they promote in the field and in science. Our goal is to encourage and inspire these women, highlighting their contributions to a more innovative, sustainable and inclusive sector,” comments Isabela Fagundes, corporate communications specialist at Bayer.

Since its creation in 2018, the Women in Agriculture Award has recognized 63 rural producers and two researchers. With each edition, female participation in the sector has grown stronger, highlighting the transformative role of these women inside and outside the farm gates. In 2024, the initiative was marked by plurality, bringing together rural producers from all regions of the country and of different age groups, with candidates ranging from 19 to 67 years old. The same edition recorded a 26,5% growth in the number of small properties registered compared to 2023.

Evaluation process

Entries will be evaluated by a panel of specialized judges, considering aspects such as sustainability, governance and social impact of the initiatives promoted by the competitors.

In total, nine rural producers will be recognized — three in each subcategory (small, medium and large properties) and one scientist in the “Science and Research” category, launched in 2023, aimed at professionals who work on impactful projects that contribute to the evolution of the agricultural sector. After the technical evaluation, the three finalist researchers will go to a popular vote, and the winner will receive an incentive of R$20, which, as in previous years, must be used in the winner's scientific work, through the research institution to which she is affiliated.

“We understand that science, as well as environmental preservation, are fundamental to sustainable agribusiness, which can meet the needs of an ever-growing population. Therefore, during the award process, we are dedicated to promoting continuous improvements that meet these and other essential requirements for the sector,” explains Mariana Araújo, financial administrative analyst at Abag.

Awards' ceremony

The winners of the 8th edition of the Women in Agribusiness Awards will be announced on October 22, during the 10th National Congress of Women in Agribusiness (CNMA), in São Paulo. The CNMA is one of the main events in the sector and brings together women from all over the country to discuss relevant topics and share experiences.
