Brazilian soybean farmers are cautious in spot negotiations, with the expectation that international demand will be redirected to Brazil in the coming weeks. This is because North American shipments may be lower this month, due to Hurricane Ida, which passed through the United States last week and caused damage to the infrastructure of the country's main grain flow channel (Mississippi Gulf Coast).

According to Cepea researchers, this scenario increased the disparity between the amounts requested by buyers and offered by sellers in Brazil, resulting in days of low liquidity.

Furthermore, some domestic soybean growers indicate a preference for saving the remainder of the 2020/21 harvest, to be sold in the last quarter, rather than selling on the spot. Some producers even signal their intention to save a volume to sell at the start of the 2021/22 season.
