The Copersucar Sugar Terminal (TAC) in the Port of Santos (SP) shipped 72 metric tons of sugar in the last week of May on an innovative wind-powered ocean vessel. The Pyxis Ocean, chartered by Cargill and contracted by Alvean - a company in the Copersucar ecosystem specializing in sugar trading - uses two rigid WindWings sails, 37,5 meters high, to reduce fuel consumption by up to 30%.

This sustainable technology reduces the carbon footprint of maritime transport without compromising ship speed. “For the Copersucar Ecosystem, this operation represents an opportunity to test solutions that are aligned with our efficient multimodal logistics strategy with lower emissions, and reinforces our commitment to sustainability in the logistics chain,” said Rodrigo Lima, Director of Logistics and Operations at Copersucar.
