Wheat planting already reaches 95% of the cultivated area in Rio Grande do Sul. According to the Conjunctural Information published on Thursday, July 9, by Emater/RS-Ascar, in partnership with the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Development Rural, the week was marked by instability with a predominance of overcast weather, low temperatures and rain, which in many municipalities accumulated more than 100 millimeters. Producers are waiting for the weather to improve to continue planting and monitoring pests, diseases and herbs in areas already established.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Santa Rosa region, canola crops are predominantly in the vegetative development phase (66%) and 29% are already in the flowering phase. The excess rain and lack of sun last week hampered the development of the crop. Most crops have already received nitrogen fertilizer; In those with later sowing, the activity should be carried out as soon as soil moisture conditions decrease. The frosts on Friday (03/07) and Saturday (04/07), which hit crops in the reproductive phase (flowering and beginning of grain filling), could have a noticeable impact on maturation.

In the Ijuí region, the white oat crop is developing satisfactorily and is at the end of its vegetative development, progressing to the reproductive stage. Humid weather favors the appearance of leaf spot symptoms on lower leaves; there is a need to monitor crops and monitor the evolution of diseases. Furthermore, the increase in the emergence and development of weeds requires control.

Barley planting was completed in the Erechim region. In the Ijuí region, the crop has good vegetative development, good plant density and rapid and vigorous growth so far. The sowing scheduled for the week was not carried out, as the moisture conditions in the soil did not allow it. In general, crops that are in tillering receive nitrogen fertilization as top dressing and weed control. The presence of leaf spots is being monitored and does not require control.

Summer crops

The next soybean harvest is being planned by producers who are already sending soil sampling for laboratory analysis, application of lime when necessary, control of invasives and acquisition of inputs, with technical advice from the Emater/RS-Ascar offices. The corn areas in the off-harvest period receive management according to the need for improvements for the next harvest. In the Pelotas region, rice producers are satisfied with the yields obtained and also with the sales prices, which have remained with little variation.

Vegetable crops

In general, the week was unfavorable for the production factors and quality of vegetables in practically all regions of the State. Heavy rains, low temperatures, strong winds and low incidence of solar radiation harm the growth and development of vegetable crops. The humid and rainy weather condition also favors the emergence of fungal diseases and bacterioses. The intense rains also caused erosion/loss of nutrients in areas prepared for conventional planting.

Fruit crops

In the Porto Alegre region, the passage of a cyclone hit banana plantations on the North Coast of Rio Grande do Sul with strong intensity. Crop losses are being raised, which should be above 40% of the region's potential production. Considering that other productive regions of Santa Catarina were also affected, a reduction in supply can be expected.

In the region of Ijuí, fruit trees are being planted to rebuild orchards and form a domestic orchard. Low demand for fruit trees to form new orchards on a large scale. In the Santa Rosa region, temperate fruit trees, especially vines and peach trees, are benefiting from low temperatures during the dormancy period, accumulating hours of cold to provide homogeneous regrowth and good productivity. The pecan tree harvest comes to an end, with good quality fruits, but with low productivity. Start winter treatment of vines to control mealybugs and foliar diseases.
