Wheat planting was completed in the western half of the state. Due to the improvement in climatic conditions in recent periods, wheat sowing was resumed in regions that were behind schedule, especially in the Eastern half, and reaches 94% of the area projected for this harvest, which, according to Emater/RS, is 1.312.488 acre. The expected productivity is 3.100 kg/ha.

According to the Conjunctural Information, released today by Emater/RS, the reduction in cloudiness and the increase in luminosity favored the more vigorous development of plants and the increase in the concentration of chlorophyll, giving a more intense and uniform green to wheat crops in the condition, in addition to significantly improving its general appearance, stimulating tillering and leaf growth.

In phytosanitary terms, the appearance of leaf spots has been observed in some areas, and work focuses on preventive and curative management with fungicides. In the Northwest Region, where wheat cultivation is more anticipated, weed, aphid and caterpillar control is carried out. The higher temperatures in the period favored the application of selective herbicides to control ryegrass and dicotyledonous plants in crops.

White oats - the return of dry weather and the presence of sunshine have favored the recovery of the crop. The crops are in variable but generally satisfactory conditions. Around 90% are in vegetative development, 8% in flowering and 2% in grain filling. Emater/RS estimates a cultivated area of 365.590 hectares, and productivity is projected at 2.402 kg/ha.

Canola - the improvement in climatic conditions, especially the increase in the number of hours of sunshine, favored the recovery of crops, which, in general, were showing less than expected development. Currently, 82% of crops are in vegetative development, 15% in flowering and 3% in grain filling. This harvest, Emater/RS projects 134.975 hectares cultivated, and productivity at 1.679 kg/ha.

Due to the favorable environmental conditions, several cultural management practices were carried out, such as spraying fungicides and insecticides on crops sown early, applying herbicides to control weeds on crops sown late, and applying nitrogen fertilization on top dressing.

Barley - sowing is nearing completion, and crops are in germination and vegetative development. It is expected that the increase in the incidence of solar radiation will favor the recovery of areas that showed unsatisfactory initial development. The initial projection for cultivation of the crop is 34.429 hectares, and productivity is 3.245 kg/ha.

In the administrative region of Emater/RS of Erechim, where the largest production area in the State is concentrated, planting has been completed, and the recently sown crops are in emergency. However, the humid climate and low sunshine hampered the initial development of some areas, resulting in growth below producers' expectations. There is also a high incidence of yellowed leaves and leaf spots in crops. In the last week, cultural treatments were carried out with an emphasis on weed control and the application of nitrogen fertilizer.

Vegetable crops

In the administrative region of Emater/RS de Bagé, in Itaqui, lettuce producers report high demand in the markets. Due to the improvement in climatic conditions, mainly due to the greater availability of solar radiation, the products present an adequate standard for commercialization. In São Gabriel, greenhouse crops were not affected by frost.

In Ijuí, the climatic conditions allowed cultural treatments, sowing and transplanting of crops in a field cultivation system. In protected environments, plants are recovering due to good light, but some hardwood crops that suffered etiolation still show slow and partial recovery. The demand for seedlings and seeds for the establishment of cultivation areas continues to be strong, both for family consumption and for commercialization.

In Pelotas, vegetable production continues to be affected by environmental conditions, but there is a slight improvement. Soil preparation, sowing, transplanting, cultural treatments and harvesting activities are also carried out. Milder temperatures contributed to the development of most vegetable species, improving the quality of the product to be harvested, mainly lettuce, arugula, parsley, chives and broccoli, whose supply also increased. The harvest of green corn and sweet corn has been completed. In the coming weeks, there is a tendency for the prices of some products, such as sweet potatoes, peppers and tomatoes, to increase due to the end of the harvest. In Rio Grande, farmers are slowly resuming production and product supply, which is still impacted by the weather events of May and June. Currently, producers are managing to sell lettuce and kale.
