With an estimated area of 1.505.704 hectares, wheat cultivation in the 2023 harvest is in the final phase of implementation in Rio Grande do Sul. According to Emater/RS, 97% of the area has been implemented. All that remains is to complete activities in larger areas, located in the highest regions of Planalto and Campos de Cima da Serra. Regarding development, 97% of crops are in the vegetative development phase; and 3% in flowering.

The initial establishment continues to present results superior to those observed in the two previous harvests. The climate scenario of recent periods has had a positive impact on culture, allowing the resumption of the rooting and development process. An increase in plant tillering was also observed, which occurred during the conjunction of low temperatures and broad incidence of solar radiation.

In the Ijuí region, wheat sowing has practically ended, within the period recommended by the Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning (Zarc), with only a few crops remaining to be implemented with own resources, for consumption on the properties.

It is possible to visually notice the damage caused by the torrential rains on 12 and 13/07. The transport of soil from higher areas to lower areas resulted in significant losses of fertilizers and seeds, in addition to the silting of sangas, dams and lower altitude areas. Some crops that were sown earlier and are in the stretching phase suffered lodging due to the winds, but should recover.
