Wheat planting continues to advance in most regions of Rio Grande do Sul and reaches 87% of the areas planned for this harvest. Producers monitor possible pests, diseases and herbs in crops. In general, the areas already implemented have been showing good development, with good stands and plant health. Information comes from the Conjunctural Newsletter, released by Emater/RS-Ascar on Thursday, July 2nd.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Bagé region, where there is an expectation of a significant increase in the area cultivated with wheat, Fronteira Oeste continues with the most advanced sowing. In São Borja, planting reaches 99% of the planned area, of 16 thousand hectares. In São Gabriel and Santana do Livramento, sowing reaches 75% of crops, with good stand and health. The rainfall in Alegrete and Manuel Viana favored the emergence and development of the crop, which was already hampered by the lack of rain.

This week, wheat sowing began in Campos de Cima da Serra, still at a very slow pace, as producers prefer to sow after July 10, thus seeking to reduce the risk of the crop being hit by frost during the critical period. The areas already sown in the Caxias do Sul region have good germination and health; The initial establishment of crops is excellent, maintaining the expectation of good yields.

Canola Production

In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Santa Rosa region, where the majority of crops (79%) are in the vegetative development phase, the crop is progressing with good development, favored by good climatic conditions. Producers took advantage of the weather conditions to apply nitrogen fertilizer to more advanced crops. With the climate consistency of recent weeks, producers expect good crop productivity and project excellent profitability, as the price of the grain is indexed to that of soybeans, which has historical values in the region. Following the trend of soybean price variation, the price in the region was R$ 100,71/sc. of 60 kilos.

White oat production

In the Ijuí region, the climate was favorable for the development of the crop, which is at the end of the vegetative stage and evolving into the reproductive stage. The first crops sown show good spikelet formation, well-developed flag leaves and plants with vigorous stems.

Barley Production

In the administrative region of Emater/RS-Ascar de Erechim, where the cultivation of just over nine thousand hectares with barley is projected, planting reached 95% of the area. The average price of the product is R$60,00/sc. of 60 kilos. The crop is at the end of its implementation in the Ijuí region, with few crops remaining, according to the planned scheduling of sowing. There follows the incipient presence of leaf spots on the first lower leaves.

Fruit crops

citrus

The citrus harvest continues in the State. In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Lajeado region, production for table fruits is concentrated in Rio Grande do Sul, which is also the largest producing region of bergamots. The more frequent and high-volume rains in May and June, together with the colder temperature, caused the citrus plants to recover the physiological condition of leaf turgidity and fruit development, which was greatly affected by the drought that occurred from December to April. In Vale do Caí, the Caí and Poncã bergamots are being harvested, and in some municipalities the Pareci bergamot has started, still in small volume. Caí and Pareci are part of the Mediterranean group cultivars, along with Montenegrina, the latest, whose harvest is scheduled to begin in August. The Caí harvest has already reached 70% of the expected total (see table). The fruit was smaller in diameter than in normal harvests, but the juice content and sweetness were not affected by the drought. Measurements of the brix degree of harvested fruits indicate an average of 13o, considered very good. The average price received by citrus growers was reduced compared to that received in the first half of June, dropping from R$27,00/box. from 25 kilos to the current R$ 25,00/box. from Caí, and from R$ 23,00 to R$ 21,00/box. from Ponca. This reduction is explained by the greater supply of fruit, resulting from the height of the harvest. The prices received this harvest are much higher than those of the last harvest, but this higher price does not compensate for the losses incurred due to the drought. The higher value is received by citrus growers whose orchards were irrigated or whose location is in areas with soils with a higher percentage of clay, which retains moisture for longer, or even for fruits from orchards benefiting from a greater volume of rainfall.

Forage cultivation

The weather in the first half of the week was excellent for cultivated and native forages, with excellent soil moisture levels, solar radiation and mild temperatures. According to the Conjunctural Information, released by Emater/RS-Ascar in partnership with the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr), the succession of three frosts on Friday and at the end of the week (26 to 28/06) in the Emater/RS-Ascar de Bagé region it marked the effective beginning of winter and the phase of paralysis in forage production in natural field areas. However, producers who added ryegrass to their areas observed good results, with the emergence and beginning of development of this forage species.
