Wheat continues to be developed in Rio Grande do Sul. With an area to be cultivated in the 2023 winter harvest estimated at 1.505.704 hectares, wheat cultivation is in the implementation phase and has reached 88% of the projected area. According to the Economic Information released by Emater/RS today (13/7), crops continue to show excellent germination, uniform emergence and rapid initial establishment. However, due to the occurrence of higher temperatures than usual for the period, wheat plants continue to grow rapidly, characterized by thinner leaves and stems, which has caused occasional cases of plants falling over in places where there was overlap in the seeding.

In relation to plant health, it is possible to observe, due to higher temperatures, cloudiness, high relative humidity and long periods of dew on the leaves, the beginning of the incidence of foliar diseases in crops that are in the tillering stage, particularly in areas where there was repetition of wheat cultivation.

White oats, another winter crop, are in the final stages of implementation. 98% of the planned crops were sown, and full completion was delayed due to adverse weather conditions related to rain. However, the planted crops present adequate development and are in the following phases: 91% in vegetative development and tillering, 6% are in flowering, and 3% are in grain filling.

In canola, sowing has been completed and the crops are at different stages of development. Around 85% of plantations are in vegetative development, 12% are in the flowering stage and 3% are in the grain filling stage. In the administrative region of Emater/RS de Santa Rosa, the planting of the crop has been completed and at the moment 74% of the crops are in vegetative development, 22% in flowering and 4% are already in the formation and filling of grains.

The implementation of barley cultivation reached 95% of the cultivation area projected for this harvest, which is 35.899 hectares. In the Erechim region, where the largest area cultivated with the cereal in the State is located, the sowing process has been completed, and the crops have adequate initial establishment.

PASTURES - Pastures cultivated with oats and ryegrass are developing well and offer a good amount of forage, but excess moisture has caused degradation due to animal trampling, especially in areas with bare soil. Fertilization management is also being affected, as the wet soil makes it difficult for machinery to enter. The growth of native grassland areas is reduced, but there is still a reasonable amount of forage.
