Nutrien launches environmental compliance booklet at the 12th ANDAV Congress
Material guides Brazilian rural producers on how to comply with socio-environmental legislation
The production of vegetables (olericulture) still does not have a production density similar to that of grains in Paraná. However, it acquires very relevant social and economic importance where it is cultivated. The topic is covered in the Agricultural Situation Bulletin for the week of August 4th to 10th. The document is prepared by technicians from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the State Secretariat for Agriculture and Supply of Paraná (Seab).
Preliminary figures for the Gross Production Value (VBP) of agriculture in Paraná point to an amount of R$191,2 billion generated in the countryside in 2022. The majority of it originates from the production of grains, cereals and animal proteins.
Vegetable farming accounts for 3,5%, having generated R$ 6,8 billion in VBP, from 50 species cultivated in the State. Despite the extensive range of products, potatoes, tomatoes and cassava for human consumption account for 43,5% of the cultivated area, 49,6% of the volume produced and 48,4% of the gross income generated.
“Even with its still small participation in the rural economy of the State, horticulture is of singular importance in the regions and municipalities where it is located, generating jobs and income both in the countryside and in the cities in the most diverse links of the production chains”, analyzes the engineer agronomist at Deral Paulo Andrade.
Manioc – Paraná increased the area planted with cassava by 7% compared to 2022, going from 126 thousand to 136 thousand hectares. Estimated production is 3,3 million tons, 11% higher than last year's 2,9 million tons. Growth has a lot to do with the good prices achieved by farmers.
Even though production solidifies the State in second place nationally, behind Pará, the harvest is not enough to meet industrial demand, which is supplied with raw materials from other regions, such as Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
Corn and wheat – Dry weather allowed progress in the corn harvest, reaching 28% of the 2,4 million hectare area, compared to 17% in the previous week. Of the unharvested crops, 13% are in the grain filling phase, which should benefit from the rains that began on Tuesday (08).
Less than 1% of the estimated 1,4 million hectares of wheat has been harvested, putting crops at climate risk. The absence of widespread frosts so far is a positive factor. but the atypical winter, with above-average temperatures, can affect productivity.
