Training encourages the advancement of coffee farming in the Federal District.

Embrapa Café and Emater-DF will hold a Coffee Farming Training Course from November 11th to 13th, exclusively for extension agents from the institution. This initiative is part of an agreement signed between the two entities to promote the development of coffee farming in the Federal District, based on technologies generated by the Coffee Research Consortium, coordinated by Embrapa Café.

The course will take place at the Emater-DF headquarters, in the Parque Estação Biológica (Asa Norte), and focuses on the transfer of technologies and best practices aimed at the main demands identified in a socioeconomic diagnosis carried out with local producers. Among the challenges identified are the scarcity of labor, pest and disease control, irrigation management, and issues related to farm management and increased productivity.

Currently, the Federal District has approximately 134 properties specializing in the production of Arabica coffee, totaling 438 hectares under cultivation. Annual production is around 20 60 kg bags, with an average productivity of 50 bags per hectare—a result higher than the national average, estimated at 30 bags per hectare. Despite this good performance, local consumption, at approximately 330 bags per year, reveals the potential for expansion of production in the region.

According to the agreement's work plan, the training program comprises a set of five stages that include a diagnosis of the production chain, training of extension agents, qualification in processing and roasting, implementation of demonstration units, and holding field days. The next phases, planned for 2026, should include the training of producers in partnership with Embrapa Cerrados, through practical activities in the main coffee-growing regions of the Federal District.

The course will be divided into three thematic modules, taught by specialists from Embrapa Café, Epamig, IDR-Paraná, and Senar-DF:

• Establishment of coffee plantations: cultivars, soil preparation, fertilization, irrigation, and pest and disease control.
• Harvesting and post-harvesting: Manual and mechanized harvesting, drying, processing, storage and roasting.
• Property management: Production planning, cost management, and marketing strategies.

The training aims to strengthen the technical skills of extension agents and contribute to the sustainable development of coffee farming in the Federal District.
