Tobacco increases its share of exports from Rio Grande do Sul.

The sector grew 11,2% in foreign exchange earnings and surpassed the average performance of the Rio Grande do Sul industry.

Industrial exports from Rio Grande do Sul ended 2025 with a 2,8% increase compared to 2024. During the same period, tobacco registered an 11,2% growth and increased its share of the state's total foreign sales.

Data from the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul indicates that the manufacturing industry exported US$ 16.773,1 million in 2025. This value exceeds the 2024 result by US$ 449,3 million, when external sales totaled US$ 16.323,8 million. Tobacco accounted for US$ 3.040,2 million of this total, with an increase of US$ 307,2 million compared to the previous year.

Surveys by the Department of Economics and Statistics, linked to the Secretariat of Planning, Governance and Management, reinforce the importance of the sector. In 2025, the industrial sector in Rio Grande do Sul advanced 3,7%, while the manufacturing industry grew 4,2%. Within this group, the manufacture of tobacco products led the expansion ranking, with an increase of 45,3%.

According to Valmor Thesing, president of the Interstate Tobacco Industry Union, the numbers confirm the economic and social importance of the crop. He states that the growing representation of tobacco in exports consolidates the sector's prominence. Thesing emphasizes that Rio Grande do Sul leads national tobacco production and is home to units of the largest global companies in the industry.
