One of the main proposals demanded by rural producers in Rio Grande do Sul and formatted by the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa), the immediate suspension of the maturity of installments of rural credit operations, is already in force.
The resolution of the National Monetary Council (CMN) published in today's Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) authorizes financial institutions to automatically extend the maturity of principal and interest installments of rural credit operations that mature between the 1st of May and August 14th this year to August 15th.
The measure applies to enterprises located in municipalities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with a declaration of emergency or a state of public calamity between April 30 and May 20, 2024, recognized by the federal government, as a result of floods. , flooding, intense rains, flash floods, windstorms, landslides or floods.
After meeting with the Agriculture Federation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Farsul), representatives of more than 100 rural unions in the state and cooperatives, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, presented the proposal to suspend payments in ministerial meeting in the situation room of Palácio do Planalto.
“We ask the CMN to immediately extend the sector’s debts. This is the first step. We are also working on structuring new credits, with a guarantee fund, allowing producers in Rio Grande do Sul to rebuild their properties”, explained the minister.
Last Friday (10), the CMN held an extraordinary session to approve the proposal to renegotiate rural credit operations in Rio Grande do Sul.
