The far west of Santa Catarina projects a yield of 200,1 sacks of corn per hectare.

Producers in the far west of Santa Catarina are expected to harvest 200,1 sacks of corn per hectare in the 2025/26 crop season. This data comes from a preliminary survey presented at the first stage of the Crop Tour, in São Miguel do Oeste. The initiative is a joint effort between Epagri and Sicoob Central SC/RS.

The teams have assessed 70 crops so far. The project foresees the analysis of samples from 87 properties. The areas are located in the municipalities of Belmonte, Caibi, Cunha Porã, Descanso, Dionísio Cerqueira, Guaraciaba, Iporã do Oeste, Maravilha, Palmitos, Pinhalzinho, São José do Cedro, and Saudades.

Pinhalzinho leads in productivity, with 219,3 sacks per hectare. Cunha Porã registers 216,4 sacks per hectare. Guaraciaba reaches 215,1 sacks per hectare.

Epagri's research assistant, Walmir Kretschmer, reports that the consolidated figures will be released at meetings with farmers, cooperatives, and representatives of the productive sector in the São Miguel do Oeste and Palmitos regions. The proposal includes presenting the data and defining strategies to support public policies and agricultural practices focused on grain production in the state.

The survey indicates a close correlation between estimated productivity and that reported by producers. The result suggests consistency in the data collected by Epagri.

Over the past 10 years, corn production in Santa Catarina has fluctuated. The 2020/21 and 2021/22 harvests were impacted by weather conditions. The cultivated area decreased by about 30% during this period. The total went from 371 hectares in 2015/16 to 258 hectares in 2025/26. This decline reflects competition with soybeans and limitations on agricultural expansion.

Despite the reduced area, the state achieved high productivity rates. The 2024/2025 harvest reached a record 9.350 kilograms per hectare. Campo Erê led the performance, with 12.953 kilograms per hectare. Faxinal dos Guedes and Abelardo Luz also registered outstanding results.
