The latest Weekly Crop Condition Monitoring report, released this week by the National Supply Company (Conab), indicates a predominantly favorable scenario for the main grain crops in Brazil. Recent weather conditions, with good water availability in several regions, have contributed to the progress of rice, bean, corn, and soybean crops, although there are isolated reports of impacts from excess or lack of rainfall.
In Rio Grande do Sul, producers continue with crop management and irrigation practices, benefiting from good water reserves. Most crops are in generally good condition, with some areas entering the reproductive phase. In Santa Catarina, development is also satisfactory, favored by a combination of adequate moisture and high temperatures, with areas in the north of the state already in the grain-filling and maturation stages.
In the North-Central region, rainfall continues to benefit rice crops in states such as Tocantins, Goiás, and Maranhão. In Pará, the irrigated rice harvest is nearing completion, while in Paraná, irrigated planting has been finished, with crops showing good development.
The first bean crop is progressing well in most producing regions. In Minas Gerais, planting has been completed and the crops are mostly in reproductive stages. In Paraná, the harvest has already reached about 20% of the total area.
In Bahia, planting is practically finished, favored by more regular rainfall. In Santa Catarina, unstable weather has delayed planting progress, which has reached 91% of the planned area, with isolated reports of losses caused by hail, previous drought, and excessive heat. In São Paulo, 95% of the area has already been harvested, although rains in the final phase have harmed the quality of part of the production.
With 85,6% of the area sown, the first-crop corn is showing good development in several states. In Minas Gerais, high temperatures combined with good water availability are favoring the crop. In Rio Grande do Sul, excessive rainfall delayed the drying of the first areas, postponing the start of the harvest, but benefited crops planted later.
In the south of the country, Paraná and Santa Catarina are experiencing the effects of heat and reduced rainfall on pollination and grain filling in some areas. Meanwhile, in Matopiba and the Central-West region, weather conditions remain favorable, allowing planting to progress and crops to develop well.
Soybean production remains positive across most of the country. In Mato Grosso, crops are recovering from the effects of irregular rainfall observed in November, with harvesting nearing its start. In Rio Grande do Sul, recent rainfall has allowed for the resumption of vegetative development and planting.
In Paraná, the harvest has already begun, and a significant portion of the areas are in the grain-filling stage. In Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, and Bahia, the regular rainfall has favored development and reduced problems of unevenness in the crops. In the North and Northeast, planting remains dependent on rainfall, with slower progress in some regions of Pará and Maranhão.
According to Conab, continuous monitoring of weather conditions remains crucial in the coming weeks, especially for crops in critical stages of development and for the progress of initial harvests.
