Registrations are open until September 10th for the second edition of the Women of Agro Award, which values innovative management practices by Brazilian rural producers and livestock farmers. The initiative was created by the German multinational Bayer last year, in partnership with the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (ABAG), and this year, it also has the sponsorship of Elanco Saúde Animal and support from Transamérica. The objective is to recognize women's contribution to agricultural activities and support them in the fight for gender equality.
“It is an honor to continue this initiative, we want more and more women to be protagonists in the agricultural sector. It is very important for Bayer to disseminate these good practices and also recognize the contribution of these women to Brazilian agribusiness”, explains Gerhard Bohne, director of Bayer's Crop Science division in Brazil. The award ceremony will take place on October 9, during the 4th National Congress of Women in Agribusiness, which takes place at the Transamérica Expo Center, in São Paulo.
The award is aimed at women who own small, medium or large farms who, in some way, are in charge of managing the property. Interested parties will be evaluated in the Innovative Management category, which recognizes innovations for good agricultural practices focused on water resource management, correct use of agricultural pesticides and environmental conservation, respecting the pillars of sustainability – economic, social and environmental. The best three in small, medium and large properties will be awarded.
“The female presence in the agribusiness market has grown significantly in recent years and the industry must support the fight for gender equality. Furthermore, it is urgent that women engage in search of the same conditions as men in the market. Therefore, Bayer, as the main partnership of Brazilian agribusiness, wants to give a voice to these women, valuing and recognizing the contribution of producers to national agriculture”, says Cecília Melo, Crop Protection Launch Manager at Bayer.
ABAG remains consistent with its mission of seeking balance and valorization of agribusiness production chains. In addition, it advances on other relevant issues and integrates this significant partnership together with Bayer, Elanco Saúde Animal and Transamérica in another edition of the Women of Agro Award. “Women have already broken several barriers and stereotypes, with this Award we will have the opportunity to recognize the female role in agribusiness of women managers, workers, motivated and brave”, highlights Luiz Cornacchioni, executive director of ABAG.
“The Women of Agro Award is a recognition of the women who make a difference in Brazilian agribusiness,” says Sheila Guebara, senior manager of Corporate Affairs at Elanco. “In recent years, the female presence on farms has grown substantially. Now is the time to recognize the achievements made by these women and encourage others to take a leading role in the sector”, she adds.
