Research to monitor the sugarcane harvest, carried out by technicians from the National Supply Company (Conab), began this week in the states of Minas Gerais and Pernambuco. The data will help in the composition of the 4th Survey of the 2021/2022 Harvest and 1st Survey of the 22/23 Harvest, together with information from the other producing states.

The work continues until March 25th in both states, and aims to verify the production mix and production of ethanol and sugar with the plants and distilleries.

In Minas Gerais, the following stand out among the research variables: area, productivity, precipitation, diseases/pests and climatic factors. Contacts will be made remotely with prior sending of questionnaires to 32 companies located in the state. At this moment, the plants are moving towards the beginning of the harvest. Information will be obtained for the closing of the 21/22 harvest and the opening of the 22/23 harvest.

In Pernambuco, attention turns to consolidating and closing the numbers for the 2021/2022 harvest, as well as opening work on the 2022/2023 harvest through expectations of planted area and production estimates for the sugar cane harvest . This season has been marked by normal rainfall, with the planting of this crop divided into 2 macro regions of Pernambuco (northern forest and southern forest) with the expected window for planting and renewal beginning in April.

The investigation of this survey is carried out in the municipalities that involve both the northern and southern forest regions of Pernambuco, with the objective of seeking data on the most relevant variables of the state harvest, such as: planted area, average productivity prospects, crop development , including information on the predominant stage of the crop, influence of climatic conditions on crops, control of possible pests and diseases, progress of harvesting and planting work, as well as marketing aspects, such as marketing, among other aspects.
